Beads from Africa October 11 2015

One of the biggest reasons I got into making jewellery is my fascination with beads and especially ones from Africa. With techniques dating back thousands of years, this continent produces beads from a variety of materials such as resin, metal, paper, glass, cow bone, wood and clay. After many questions about the beads i used in my jewellery, I realized that i was not the only one who found the history and techniques of these beads fascinating. I decided to make a bead information board to display at my craft shows that would not only be informative but also a piece of art. With the help of my aunt, we completed this project using a canvas, paint, a burlap cloth, cut outs from National Geographic magazines of Africa, a hot glue gun and some beads. Hope you get a chance to see it at my next show!
